Surprise! FFG reveals huge new Star Wars galactic battle miniatures game

Fantasy Flight Games know how to drop a bomb all right. Just when you think they’re all out of surprises for the year – and we’ve had doozies like the new Fury of Dracula, a Hoth-themed big box for Imperial Assault and a re-polished Runebound adventure game – they go and drop a new Star Wars miniatures game, and drop everyone’s jaws in the process. FRANTIC, TERROR-FILLED CARD-SWAPPING GAME ESCAPE THE NIGHTMARE HITS KICKSTARTER

Escape the NightmareOh, I like the sound of this. A fast-paced card-swapping set collection game, where each swap might see you lose the use of your arms or have to talk in rhyme, all with a ten-second ‘game over’ countdown which resets whenever you make a swap? That’s the sort of chaos I can get on board with. Continue reading

FFG REVEALS THE CORPSE KING SCENARIO FOR NEW EDITION OF RUNEBOUND

Corpse KingRunebound! What a name. Does it make anyone else think it’s some fantasy parallel of being eggbound? Some poor adventurer squatting unsuccessfully in the woods, trying to expel the consequences of an evening spent chomping down runic tablets? No? Oh dear. Continue reading

The Bloody Inn, Kingdom Builder, Fortress America – what are YOU playing this weekend?

pic2618699_mdHappy Friday Saturday board gamers! Yesterday we were getting ready to slip into the weekend like an eel into a warm bath when our server crashed, so sorry that you haven’t been able to get on the site until now. Turns out I now can’t upload new pictures, which is why I’ve had to use a completely unrelated one on this article for now. Fixed! Anyway – the weekend’s here now, and there’s gaming action galore!

We’ve got exciting new Essen purchase The Bloody Inn to give a test run, and we’re also looking forward to cracking open Kingdom Builder, Fortress America and the venerable Alhambra from 2003. We’ll totally fit in a skirmish game of Imperial Assault in there somewhere too, and if there’s no Netrunner I’ll eat my console.

What are you playing this weekend? Let us know in the comments below, and show off your pics to us on Twitter or the Facebook.

Beautiful, intense emotion-balancing game ‘…and then we held hands’ coming to North America

and then we held handsHere’s something a bit special. Last January friends Yannick Massa and David Chircop sweated away over 48 hours to create their first ever board game, ‘…and then we held hands’, as part of the Global Game Jam contest. A game which sees two players attempt to navigate their way though a failing relationship, attempting to balance emotions by playing the right cards from either their own or their partner’s (half obscured) hand to get them both to the centre of the board within one turn of each other. In silence. Continue reading
