Surprise! FFG reveals huge new Star Wars galactic battle miniatures game

Fantasy Flight Games know how to drop a bomb all right. Just when you think they’re all out of surprises for the year – and we’ve had doozies like the new Fury of Dracula, a Hoth-themed big box for Imperial Assault and a re-polished Runebound adventure game – they go and drop a new Star Wars miniatures game, and drop everyone’s jaws in the process. Corpse KingRunebound! What a name. Does it make anyone else think it’s some fantasy parallel of being eggbound? Some poor adventurer squatting unsuccessfully in the woods, trying to expel the consequences of an evening spent chomping down runic tablets? No? Oh dear. Continue reading

Beautiful, intense emotion-balancing game ‘…and then we held hands’ coming to North America

and then we held handsHere’s something a bit special. Last January friends Yannick Massa and David Chircop sweated away over 48 hours to create their first ever board game, ‘…and then we held hands’, as part of the Global Game Jam contest. A game which sees two players attempt to navigate their way though a failing relationship, attempting to balance emotions by playing the right cards from either their own or their partner’s (half obscured) hand to get them both to the centre of the board within one turn of each other. In silence. Continue reading

Ticket to Ride

I shied away from covering this yesterday as there’s no indication when it might all be over, but the offer to download the iOS edition of Ticket to Ride: Pocket and its European map counterpart for a measly cost of ZERO is still going strong, so hurry up and get on it.

Try a free copy of World’s Fair 1893 as Kickstarter goes live today

Worlds fair boxI love World’s Fair 1893. Love it. And I haven’t even played it yet. It’s that title – I thought initially it was ‘The World’s Fair’. Even though we all know the world’s patently unfair, and full of horror and death and Donald Trump. Even though that’s obviously not what the title means. It just feels warm and comforting on the tongue, like some kind of word meatball. Try saying it out loud now. ‘The World’s Fair’. Bliss.

Discount preorders for Survive: Space Attack get wiped out at 9pm EDT

Survive Space Attack! Board Game | The Boarding Kennel | Stronghold GamesTime flies when you’re arseing about in space – it’s all that loop-the-looping around quasars and whatnot. It seems like only yesterday I was writing about Stronghold games revealing their souped-up new retheme of venerable board game classic Survive. Turns out by some kink in the space-time continuum that was actually April, meaning that by my astro-watch you’ve got just a few hours left to bag a pre-order copy from Stronghold at a generous 30% off RRP.
